YAY! I’m (April) excited to announce we are starting a new series of blog posts called “Wedded Wednesday” In these posts Paul and I will share marriage advice (based on scripture), marriage stories, and marriage disappointments. We want to be real with you guys in hopes to give you a glimpse at love from our perspective. As a family that attempts daily to keep God first, and as a family that also fails. Although our lives are not perfect and our love may fall short, we choose love unconditionally and for that our marriage is rewarded! We hope you enjoy what we have to say. We hope you can have a laugh or two and that you might learn something no matter how small, to take into your marriage!
Now on to today’s post…
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14
There is nothing more refreshing than putting your guard down and just being YOU. The moment you choose to accept who you are is the moment you feel a weight being removed from your shoulders. For years I tried to be who I thought everyone else wanted me to be. I pretended. The truth is we pretend because we want to be liked. But let me ask you this… What is the point in being liked if you’re not being liked for who you are?
The worst thing to be is successful as someone else.
You will be amazed at the TRUE friendships and relationships you will build by letting go of perception and holding on to the true you. How can you truly know love in all it’s realness if you are not sharing yourself with your spouse? An amazing quote that I love…
He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away. -Raymond Hull
It’s true. If you attempt to please everyone and be who THEY are requiring you to be you will soon start to wonder who you really are.
Yes, you may open up and you may get hurt. But the thing to remember is, you were created to be who you are for a reason, for a purpose. Don’t be afraid to admit your love for sci-fi, your obsession with Justin Beiber, or your hidden collection of comic books. When you share who you truly are you are loved for who you truly are. There is not greater love than honest and open love. So put down the wall, throw on your Team Edward shirt, and just be YOU. THAT is when you find a best friend and not just a spouse. You find someone that you WANT to spend the rest of your life with no matter what.
And now I leave you with a story:
There once was a chicken farmer who found an eagle’s egg.
He put it with his chickens and soon the egg hatched.
The young eagle grew up with all the other chickens and whatever they did, the eagle did too. He thought he was a chicken, just like them.
Since the chickens could only fly for a short distance, the eagle also learnt to fly a short distance.
He thought that was what he was supposed to do. So that was all that he thought he could do. As a consequence, that was all he was able to do.
One day the eagle saw a bird flying high above him. He was very impressed. “Who is that?” he asked the hens around him.
“That’s the eagle, the king of the birds,” the hens told him. “He belongs to the sky. We belong to the earth, we are just chickens.”
So the eagle lived and died as a chicken, for that’s what he thought he was.
What could you be missing?
